Sean Millman

I am a battery and front ensemble designer, percussion educator, and performing artist with a Ph.D. in Percussion Performance from NYU Steinhardt. My arranging work spans competitive and non-competitive high school bands, Division III college football bands, and DCI SoundSport and All-Age ensembles, with 16 completed field shows across a wide range of programs and ability levels.

My approach is built around a simple conviction — the most important audience members are the ones in uniform. Every show I write is designed for every student to learn something, and my goal is for every player to have a genuine moment of discovery when they receive a new chart. My process is as collaborative as the client needs, from hands-off delivery to months of design team meetings and rewrites.

My longest-standing client relationship has been with Eastside High School in Gainesville, FL, where I have designed percussion books since 2015 and served as head band director for the 2025 marching season. I have also written for the Steel City Ambassadors Drum and Bugle Corps in 2024 and 2025, Suwannee High School, Trinity Catholic High School, and Missouri Southern State University.

As a performer, my work spans more than 30 countries across four continents, including the drumset roster for Disney Cruise Line and performances at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, and Off-Broadway venues in New York City.

I have presented masterclasses at NYU, the University of Florida, Newberry University, Lee University, Stephen F. Austin State University, and Tec de Monterrey in Mexico, and have delivered research presentations at PASIC and national conferences for NACWPI and CMS.

My writing has appeared in Percussive Notes, Rhythm! Scene, and Allegro. I endorse Vic Firth, Zildjian, and Black Swamp.
