Overview
I am a marching percussion specialist, arranger, and educator with more than 35 years of experience at every level of the activity. My performing career includes playing snare drum with the Bayonne Bridgemen, and my teaching and arranging work spans some of the most accomplished ensembles in drum corps history — including the Anaheim Velvet Knights, Dutchboy, Jersey Surf, and the Bluecoats.
At the collegiate level, I served as percussion instructor for the USC Trojan Marching Band and at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I held the position of Assistant Director of University Bands.
My snare drum performances are featured on Row-Loff Publications' Rudimental Cookbook and Just Desserts. I am also the author of Savage Rudimental Workshop, a rudiment development book published by Alfred Music and used worldwide.
I have been actively involved in WGI indoor percussion as an adjudicator and served on the WGI Percussion Steering Committee. Each summer, I host the Matt Savage Marching Percussion Camp in the Carolinas. I am a clinician and endorser for Sabian Cymbals, Yamaha, Remo, and Vic Firth.
