Bill Locklear

I am a composer, arranger, educator, and professional bassist with more than 50 years of experience working across marching band, concert band, orchestra, and jazz. My compositions and arrangements have been performed at the professional, university, and public school levels, including numerous commissioned works, and my music is published by TRN Music and Arrangers Publishing Company.

Among the defining moments of my career, my compositions were featured at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympic Games, and in 1993 I was commissioned to arrange music for the Atlanta Braves World Series homecoming celebration. I was also recently invited by the District Nine Georgia Music Educators Association band directors to compose and conduct a work for their annual honor band clinic and concert.

During my 30-year career as a music educator at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, I was twice named S.T.A.R. Teacher by the Effingham County school system and selected three times for Who's Who in Teaching. I have served as a guest conductor throughout the Southeastern United States and have been an adjudicator and clinician regionally and nationally for more than 40 years. My past marching band clients include numerous U.S. state and regional champions.

As a professional bassist for more than five decades, I have performed alongside an extraordinary range of entertainers, including Bob Hope, Carol Channing, Kate Smith, Rita Moreno, and Frankie Avalon, as well as jazz luminaries Clark Terry, Joe Morello, Jimmy Heath, and Slide Hampton. I currently serve as conductor and music director for singer Curtis Reed, perform with the Clocktower Jazz Ensemble, and lead my own jazz trio.

My professional memberships include ASCAP, the National Band Association, NAfME, the Georgia Music Educators Association, and the Epsilon Nu chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
