Bill Locklear

During my 30-year music education career, I have served at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. I was twice named “S.T.A.R. Teacher” by the Effingham County school system and was selected for “Who’s Who in Teaching” three times.

I am a frequent guest conductor in the Southeastern United States and have been an adjudicator and clinician regionally and nationally for more than 40 years. My past marching band clients include numerous U.S. state and regional champions.

With more than 50 years of experience arranging and composing for marching and concert bands, orchestras, and jazz ensembles, I have composed at the professional, community, university, and public school levels, including many commissioned works. Recently, I was asked by the District Nine Georgia Music Educators Association band directors to compose and conduct a work for their annual honor band clinic and concert.

In 1993, I was asked to arrange music for the Atlanta Braves World Series homecoming party and, in 1996, my compositions were featured at the Atlanta Summer Olympic Games. My music is published by TRN Music and Arrangers Publishing Company. My memberships include ASCAP, National Band Association, NAfME, Georgia Music Educators Association and Epsilon Nu chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

As a performer, I have appeared as a professional bassist for more than five decades, appearing with a variety of entertainers including Bob Hope, Frankie Avalon, Frank Gorshen, Dick Shawn, Rita Moreno, Buddy Grecco, Rich Little, Carol Channing, Kate Smith, and Kay Starr, and jazz musicians Jerry Coker, Clark Terry, Joe Morello, Jimmy Heath, Tom Ferguson, Joe Jones, and Slide Hampton. I am the conductor / music director for popular singer Curtis Reed and currently perform with the Clocktower Jazz Ensemble. I also lead my own jazz trio.
